Material relating to the development and construction of the motorways in Lancashire has been deposited by the Regional co-ordinator into this record office and has been listed under “archive information” on the Motorway Archive website. Its Record Office reference number is: DDX2286. There will probably also be an Accession Number.
It should be understood that there will inevitably be other information relating to the motorway system, which has been deposited by other people, and not listed on this website. This includes material held in the North West sound archive. You can comprehensively search the archive's catalogues, including the sound archive, by entering "motorway" in the archive 'search' page above.
It is also likely that some of the major libraries in the County could hold relevant records, but these must be approached individually.

Much of the motorway construction in the North West was completed before the major boundary changes in 1974. As a consequnce, most of the motorway-related archives are stored in Preston. However, some of the individual authorities that fell within the old boundary could well have some minor deposits of relevance. To locate the authorities in the North West with some archive facilities, see the National Archive directory http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archon/.
